:And yet, I see no reason to do so. Throughout this entire process we've never been given any indication that our concerns are being listened to aside from the occasional "we're working on it" without any real solid evidence that you are or even what you're going to do. Now that I've had some personal time with the new skin, I've come to the conclusion that there is simply no hope. It feels a bit like the Titanic, with the owner desperately telling the captain to "sail on" even when he and the architect are screaming that it would be madness to do so. Meanwhile, all the rest are abandoning ship to avoid the vessel's now inevitable fate. -- [[User:Dark T Zeratul|Dark T Zeratul]] ([[User talk:Dark T Zeratul|talk]]) 18:40, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Revision as of 20:01, October 20, 2010

Forums: Index WoWWiki general Migration plans update

Based on Forum:Should WoWWiki leave Wikia, there appears to be community support for moving WoWWiki to a different host. We have now begun the process of copying the current content over to a different host.

What is being copied?
The current plan is to move the entire revision history of all articles and images. There are also plans to ensure that people with accounts here will be able to keep their usernames on the new wiki.
Update: we've copied article revisions up to a specific date (2010-10-18 21:29 UTC); images would have to be transferred over by hand. Edits made after that date will not be carried over
Where are we going?
It'll be a new domain name, which will be announced when the new wiki is ready.
U: http://www.wowpedia.org/
When will the new wiki be ready?
Soon; the current intention is "before BlizzCon."
U: You can visit (and edit) it now.
Do I need to do anything?
No; you can continue editing WoWWiki -- there is a plan to transfer subsequent edits to the new wiki.
U: If you've registered on WoWWiki prior to 2010-10-14, you can use the same username on wowpedia after "reclaiming" your account.

Can other wikis use your hosting?

Just waiting to find out when the reclamation is working again. I'm getting the "account already in use" error. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:23, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
I can confirm that there is an issue affecting multiple (but not all) accounts at the moment. A fix is in the pipeline, and will probably be applied later today. Hang in there :) -- foxlit (talk) 18:47, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
This bug is now fixed. --PcjGamepedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!

This wiki is not closing

I just want to confirm that this wiki will remain open and available to edit. You are welcome to continue to contribute here. -- Sannse (talk) 18:28, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

And yet, I see no reason to do so. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:40, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

I think the intention is to keep the discussion to the other forum, and this one just the information. Pcj, If I interpreted that right, perhaps we can move most of this part to there?
Dark T Zeratul, the width change is likely to be released today. I know we don't always move fast, but that change is in response to the comments from here, and will be live very shortly -- Sannse (talk) 20:01, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
